The start leg of Greenway is an enjoyable clear run along the coastline, over the causeway, through Abbeyside and all the way into the historic port of Dungarvan, a buzzy seaide market town with a strong foodie vibe and a picturesque quay-side setting.

Another 'bite-size' way to enjoy the Greenway, this spectacular section travels through the atmospherically lit 400 metre long Ballyvoyle Tunnel ( children love the tunnel - it's great for making achoes! ) and then over the historic Ballyvoyle viaduct which was blown up 1922. Smell the sea in the air as you reach the Copper Coast and round the headland to breathtaking views of Clonea Strand

Built in 1878, this Iconic feature of Waterford's raill way heritage is a quarter of a mile long and fully brick lined. Closest Assess Point: Shanacool

Constructed in 1878 and blow up in 1922 during the Irish Civil War, rebuilt in 1924

Past the workhouse, you'll find more places to exit and shop for refreshments in Kilmacthomas, you can also get great views of the viaduct from village.
Back on Greenway and set off through valleys with views of the Comeragh mountains to the north. Cross over Durrow Viaduct and past ivy-covered Durrow Station where ruins of the old railway platform and waiting rooms still stand

Opened in 1878, this eight arch rubble stone viaduct passes over road, millrace and river.

Here there is a tranquil silence interrupted only by birdsong. You'll arrive at the old famine workhouse

Looking for a "bite - sized" experience of the Waterford Greenway? Then this is for you
Past the beautiful Mount Congreve which is known as one of the great gardens of the world. Passing the medieval ruins of a Norman Castle, the trail moves through quit woodlands to Kilmeaden, where you can stop for refreshments and maybe even take a ride on the Waterford & Suir Valley heritage train. This short strech is very suitable for those with small children or those with reduced mobility.

Killoteran - Waterford

1.5km - MOSTLY FLAT
This short stretch of the Greenway goes from W.I.T. West Campus out alongside the old narrow gauge railway track, beside the sweeping estuary of the River Suir and past Woodstown, where Viking from Norway fist settled in Waterford. Continue through beaytiful woodlands and arrive at stone limekilns. Shortly beyond Killoteran is the rear of Mount Congreve

Woodstown Viking Site
In 2003 archaeologists uncovered an 8th c. Viking site here that predates Waterford City. Artefacts are on display at Reginald's Tower, see WaterfordTreasures.com. Site is not accessible, but can be seen from Killoteran Bridge, east of Killoteran Stream.
River Suir
An important wildlife area for a number of protected species such as Otter, Salmon, Lamprey and Shad
